The
City Council has several responsibilities and
charges each year, each linked to the overarching
purpose of making San Pablo a better place to
live, work and visit:
-
Establishing
comprehensive goals and objectives for the
City
-
Providing
leadership in establishing policies for the
conduct of municipal affairs
- Formulating
priorities for allocation of City resources
- Supporting
special legislative bodies
-
Representing
the City at local, regional, state and nationwide
organizations
-
Holding
regularly scheduled meetings, hearings, and
study sessions to receive citizens' input
and conduct city business in a public forum.
The
City Council consists of five members elected
from registered city voters at large. Council
Members serve four-year staggered terms. Municipal
(local) elections are held in November of even-numbered
years.
The
Council selects a Mayor annually, who serves
as presiding officer during all City Council/Redevelopment
Agency meetings (held concurrently) and study
sessions. Council duties include adopting a
budget, enacting legislation, establishing basic
policy of the City, and appointing City Manager,
City Attorney and members of City Committees
and Commissions.
Meetings are held on the first and third Mondays
of each month at 7:00 p.m. In the event
a meeting is scheduled for a Monday that falls
on a holiday, please contact the City Clerk
for schedule information at 510.215.3000. Agenda items are listed on the web site and
full agenda information is also available at
the City Clerks office, and Contra Costa College on the Friday prior
to a City Council Meeting.
