G.R.E.A.T. Summer Program

page_banner.png

In 1992, Officer Trevor Redman (now retired) proposed a program that would give youth in our community an opportunity to interact with our police officers in a positive non-threatening way.  The idea was to identify at-risk youth that would benefit from a unique camping experience with police officers.  With assistance from the city, several volunteer officers chaperoned the first group of campers at Samuel P. Taylor State Park in Marin county.  The first trip was a great success and the trip continued to evolve over the years.

In 2012, the Youth & Education Services Unit (Y.E.S.) launched a two week youth summer program for students who graduated from the Gang Residence and Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program.  The two week program includes fun-filled field trips, classroom instruction and various activities.  Activities and classes include: horseback riding, a tour of the police department and library, presentations by the fire department, AMR and the SEA team, swimming and a 3-day overnight camping trip.

This program has been supported extensively by the San Pablo Eagles since 1992, and the two week program would not have been possible without their continued support.

For more information about the program you can contact School Resource Officer Ken White at (510)215-3213.
