The San Pablo Police Department Traffic Unit was formed in 2003 with the assistance of grant funds from the California Office of Traffic Safety. The Unit consists of one sergeant and two patrol officers, whose primary responsibilities are to investigate traffic collisions and enforce traffic laws. Additionally, they provide expertise in traffic flow and crowd management during community events such as the annual Cinco de Mayo Parade and Fourth of July Celebration to insure a safe and smooth operating event. The Traffic Officers also conduct safety inspections of commercial vehicles and taxis.

These officers receive over 400 hours of specialized training in traffic enforcement, collision investigation, crash reconstruction and commercial vehicle investigation. Officers remain current in traffic related issues by attending conference updates and seminars.
