Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program where community members work together with law enforcement to create a safer neighborhood. This program is based upon the concept of neighbors watching out for neighbors. The success of this program is directly dependent upon citizen participation.
Neighborhood Watch has been used successfully in many cities, and can be one of the most effective methods of decreasing incidents of burglary, theft, vandalism, and drug/gang related crimes in your neighborhood.
If you are interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch group in your area, the police department encourages you to sign up to receive training on how to become a Block Captain. Block Captains receive a crime prevention kit from the police department and will learn a step-by-step process on how to form a Neighborhood Watch Group. The kit includes a comprehensive book on safe neighborhoods, video tape on how to get started, and an engraving pen.
This is a fun and easy process that will help bring residents together and will have a positive lasting effect in your neighborhood.
